STEAM Career Showcase for Students with Disabilities

Join us for the 13th annual STEAM Career Showcase for Students with Disabilities – a free event for learners in grades 6–12. Connect with role models with disabilities who have thriving careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM). Learn about their personal journeys and strategies for success. Gain practical knowledge that you can apply to your interests and future career paths. ASL interpretation and live captions will be provided for welcome, keynote presentation, and panel discussion. Registration closes on Friday, October 9th. Register Now   Schedule 9:30am: Doors Open & Check In 10:00am: Welcome 10:15am: Keynote Presentation with Q&A (speaker to be announced) 11:00am – 12:30 pm: Opportunity Fair with Exhibitors Noon – 12:30pm: Panel Discussion (panelists to be announced) Keynote Speaker Dr. Louis Vaught An engineer who develops new materials and manufacturing technologies, Dr. Vaught has worked on some exciting projects. These include wearable batteries woven into clothing, plastics that survive harsh environments like the North Pole, and even reusable glue for building satellites in orbit. Panelists Trusha Patel Currently studying to become a physical therapist, Trusha aims to help people get back to moving with confidence after an injury, illness or life-changing event. As an amputee, much of her personal experience inspired her career path. – More panelists to be announced.  Exhibitors NCMNS Teen Programs Find out about programs & volunteer opportunities for middle and high school students, right here at the Museum. – Catalyst at NC State Get information about the free, award-winning program that prepares high school students with disabilities for careers in STEM fields. – Autism Society of North Carolina Speak with an employment specialist from ASNC who helps autistic job seekers in their search. – Youth LEAD NC Learn about the NC Youth Leadership Forum on NC State’s campus, where participants get an on-site college experience before even graduating from high school. – NC ABLE Program Gain knowledge about financial resources for people with disabilities, including savings accounts and investments. – More to be announced.
